The following training solutions are delivered through instructor-led seminars, using the web-based HP Virtual Training Room and a conference call line.

Out-of-Box Training (2–4 hours)

This class gives participants an overview of the features and functions of the HP personal computing device and provides an introduction to the basic functions. The goal of this course is to enable participants to get the most out of their equipment and to gain comfort and familiarity with basic end-user tasks in the operating system.

The topics addressed are:
  1. Device components:
    1. On-off buttons, control/alt/delete function, and LED indicator lights
    2. Fixed, optical, and removable drives, memory sticks, PC card slots, etc.
    3. LAN and modem network connections
    4. Battery: install, remove, and change
    5. Headset and microphone connection
    6. IEEE 1394 (Firewire) connection to digital video camcorders
  2. Connecting external devices (USB printers, keyboard, cameras, scanners, etc.)
  3. Function keys unique to the device
  4. Power management: power on, shut down, standby, hibernate, battery charging
  5. Connecting and using external monitors and video projectors
  6. Networking via LAN, wireless, and dial-up
  7. Uses of WiFi, Bluetooth, and infrared tools, appropriate uses of each
  8. Tips for hardware configuration to optimize and maximize laptop performance
  9. Basic care and maintenance for the device
  10. Tablet PCs only:
    1. Operating system elements specific to the tablet PC
    2. Using the pen to control basic and advanced operating system functions
    3. Performing handwriting recognition in Windows Journal and Microsoft Office applications d. Using the pen to annotate, markup, and edit documents
    4. Using voice recognition via the tablet input panel to enter dictation and control applications
  11. Speech recognition (on speech capable devices)
    1. Pros and cons of built-in vs. external (headset) Microphones
    2. Using speech annotation and speech recognition for dictation into various applications
    3. Using speech recognition to perform system commands (open, save, ok, etc.)
  12. iPAQs only:
    1. Operating system elements specific to the iPAQ
    2. Stylus input device, integrated keyboard
    3. Utilizing the stylus, stylus/screen interface
    4. Integrated wireless connections (GPS, GSM, Bluetooth‚ IrDA, and USB)
    5. Bluetooth headset/microphone connection f. Camera functionality
    6. Connecting your iPAQ using Active Sync h. GPRS and dial up using USB software
