Introduction

It's simple: Great photo prints start with great photos. And HP Photosmart digital cameras make it easy to produce photos that are crisp, realistic, and true-to-life. The in-camera technologies make it easy (practically foolproof) to take outstanding photos that are ready to print and share. Learn about the time-saving features and technologies on HP cameras that help you go straight from capture to print.

Behind-the-scenes technologies

In the time it takes to snap a picture, a lot goes on inside an HP digital camera. HP digital cameras offer an unprecedented amount of image processing, so you can focus on your pictures. (This refers to everything that happens in the camera from the time that one presses the shutter to the time that the final image is stored to the camera’s internal memory or the memory card).

HP Real Life technologies—the underlying power of HP Photosmart digital cameras—take much of the guesswork out of digital photography. They also reduce the amount of work you have to do!

Removing red-eye

It’s happened to every photographer: a priceless moment ruined by those dreaded red eyes. With HP digital cameras, you can correct photos right in your camera, so your pictures are ready to print and share on the spot. Most HP cameras have easy-to-use in-camera red-eye removal (part of the HP Real Life technologies).

Some newer models (such as the HP Photosmart R927) even have automatic removal. So you can get rid of red-eye before you take your photo.

HP cameras are the only ones that offer both fully automatic red-eye removal and an easy way to eliminate red-eye after the photo is taken. Read more about HP’s red-eye removal solutions or take a tour to see how easy it is to get the red out.

In-camera Design Gallery

HP’s in-camera Design Gallery feature gives you the creative power to take your pictures to the next level. It’s like having a photo design studio in the palm of your hand—no software to buy and learn. Here are just a few ways you can turn your pictures into print-ready masterpieces:

  • Add simple and artistic photo borders
  • Add special effects—such as Cartoon and Kaleidoscope
  • Enhance sky and ground colors
  • Apply a subtle “slimming” effect to yourself or others.

It’s incredibly easy: Simply select the Design Gallery menu when reviewing an image on the camera, and choose the effect you want to apply. Various Design Gallery features can be found on newer M-series and R-series digital cameras.

Taking panoramic photos

photos stitched and combined into one panoramic image

Sometimes your subject matter is too wide or tall to be contained in a normal-sized photograph.

HP digital cameras offer a couple of different panorama solutions: in-camera panorama preview and in-camera panorama stitching.

  • In-camera panorama preview allows you to take up to five photos that you can later combine into one seamless image. The camera does all the work for you by lining up each photo in sequence as you shoot. When downloaded to your PC, the pictures are easily stitched together to create a final, seamless panoramic photo.
  • In-camera panorama stitching fuses up to five single shots together to create one seamless image—right in your camera. You don’t need software to stitch your image together. You just connect your camera or memory card directly to a printer—no PC necessary.

Finding the right light

ski photo comparison of adaptive lighting adjustment

Sometimes those precious details that bring a picture to vivid life can be left in the dark. HP’s Adaptive Lighting technology allows you to balance the light and dark areas of a photo for crisp contrast, even when you’re shooting into the sun. You can photograph those details that are normally lost in shadows—details that other cameras can’t capture without additional lighting.

The end result is a photograph that better represents what you saw when you took the picture. And since this is all done inside your camera, correcting stark contrasts is much easier than fixing the photo later with editing software.

HP Adaptive Lighting technology was introduced in HP Photosmart digital cameras in 2003 and has been recognized by the press and photographers as a technological breakthrough. Take the tour to learn more about this groundbreaking new technology.

Printing without a PC

an HP compact printer printing photos

Because HP cameras are packed with so many image-perfecting features, it’s easy to get a great print. Simply pop out the memory card and put it into a printer, or connect your camera to your printer, for picture-perfect printing.

HP offers several printers with advanced photo printing capability.

  • HP all-in-ones. The HP Photosmart All-in-One series features a LCD display for previewing your pictures and memory card slots for PC-free printing.
