HP has been contributing to communities and educational
institutions since the company was founded in 1939. In fact, our seventh
Corporate Objective articulates HP's citizenship goal:
"To honor our obligations to society by being an economic,
intellectual and social asset to each nation and each community in
which we operate."
In 2005, HP Canada donated $2 million in equipment and cash to schools
and nonprofit organizations that were able to use technology to creatively
address important issues in underserved communities. |

As a company, HP has a vision of the future where technology is
accessible to everyone in the world as a means to learn, work and
benefit from information. Consistent with this vision, our Philanthropy
program focuses on developing and supporting programs and partnerships
that showcase HP technology while supporting educational opportunity,
environmental sustainability and economic development. |

HP Canada focuses its giving program in these areas:
Education
The Technology for Teaching Program for K-12 and Higher
Education provides:
- resources and tools to transform and improve teaching and learning
in education settings
- give all students, especially those from low-income and underserved
communities, the resources and tools to achieve academic success
- improve the quality and accessibility of math, science, and
technology instruction
HP's education initiatives focus on three major areas:
- transforming the learning experience: Transforming
the teaching and learning experience for students through technology
integration.
- leading students to high-tech careers: Increasing
the number of students on a path toward high-tech careers, with
an emphasis on groups that are underrepresented in the technology
sector.
- student success in key subjects: Enhancing
student success in math, science and technology through curriculum
reform and teacher professional development.
The Community HP Canada is also a strong supporter
of community-based programs. Jr. Achievement, for instance, is an
international non-profit organization that delivers motivating programs
to students from grades 6 to 12 taught by trained volunteers from
the business community. HP Canada supports Jr. Achievement with
both a cash donation and a national employee volunteer program.
In addition, HP Canada is committed to supporting the United Way.
In our 2006 campaign HP Canada raised funds through a combination
of employee donations and HP company matching that will be reinvested
by the United Way in local communities to support programs and services
directed at improving the social conditions of Canadians. |
